What it is and what moves it

Traded as ultra-low sulphur diesel, this contract prices diesel and heating oil. Trucks, ships, farms and home boilers run on it.

What tends to move the price

  • Crude oil, its main input.
  • Freight and industry, the biggest users of diesel.
  • Winter weather in the US Northeast, where many homes burn heating oil.

Diesel is the fuel of trucks and ships, so its price tells you about trade and industry as well as oil.
