What it is and what moves it
Brent is the main international crude oil benchmark, named after a North Sea field. Much of the oil traded outside the US is priced off it.
What tends to move the price
- OPEC and its allies' production decisions.
- Conflict and shipping routes in the Middle East and around Russia.
- Demand from Asia, the largest importing region.
When news outside the US quotes 'the oil price', it usually means Brent.
