What it is and what moves it
This is RBOB, the wholesale petrol blend traded in New York harbour. It is what US refiners sell before taxes and pump margins.
What tends to move the price
- Crude oil, its main input.
- Refinery outages and maintenance, which cut supply.
- The US driving season, which lifts demand in summer.
Petrol prices follow crude, plus whatever refineries can charge to turn it into fuel.
